Private hire operator Addison Lee has partnered with GRIDSERVE to increase its electric vehicle (EV) utilisation at Gatwick Airport.
Addison Lee drivers will be given access to GRIDSERVE’s charging location at Gatwick’s South Terminal, which has 22 high-power chargers.
The partnership will see drivers benefit from off-peak charging tariffs, access to lounge and rest facilities, as well as retail discounts.
The charging station’s opening hours have been extended from 04:30am to 10pm, maintaining consistent airport transfer service levels.
Patrick Gallagher, chief operating officer at Addison Lee, said: “Charging partnerships like this are key to supporting our drivers with reliable and cost-effective charging at the locations where they need it most.
“This collaboration allows us to offer more sustainable London Gatwick transfers while supporting our driver community with tangible benefits.”
As well as optimising fleet management for Addison Lee’s EVs, the partnership enables GRIDSERVE to maximise energy usage, and balance charging demand throughout the day.
Drivers can pay independently through the GRIDSERVE app, but will still be able to access group benefits.
Daniel Kunkel, CEO at GRIDSERVE, said: “By combining cost-effective charging with enhanced driver facilities, we’re creating a model that benefits everyone – drivers, passengers, our facility and the environment.
“It is through strong partnerships and working together to ensure that everyone benefits that we can accelerate EV adoption for all.
“Moving forward, we hope to support more businesses and fleets in this way across our network to tailor solutions that enhance their sustainable operations.”
GRIDSERVE’s London Gatwick Electric Forecourt, located adjacent to the M23, on the approach to the South Terminal, is powered by 100% net zero energy.
Cedric Laurier, chief technical officer at London Gatwick, said: “This is a great initiative from GRIDSERVE, enhancing sustainable travel options, supporting London Gatwick’s sustainability goals and providing an excellent service for the local community and businesses.”
