Fleet management solution provider Webfleet said that artificial intelligence (AI) will become key to fleet management in 2026.
Webfleet said fleet managers are beginning to face ‘data overload’ and suggested that AI can turn data into clear priorities and actionable decisions.
It said that 2026’s most successful fleets will be the ones with the best integrations and most unified views of their operations, as fleet electrification continues and costs increase.
Electrification was cited as an area where effectively using data is key to success.
Fleet management areas where Webfleet expects AI to be used most include routing, compliance, cost control and vehicle health.
Webfleet also said that fleets will need clearer insights into their unpowered assets, such as trailers and containers, to better understand how they are used, where they are physically and how long they remain idle.
Jan-Maarten de Vries, president of fleet management solutions at Bridgestone, Webfleet’s parent company, said: “Fleet management is moving into a new phase.
“Simply collecting data and trusting experience is no longer enough. Fleets need clarity to take proactive action, supported by technology that truly guides decision-making.
“While vehicles are connected and optimised, assets remain largely invisible. This gap creates unnecessary cost, delay and safety risk.
“That’s why the next frontier in fleet management is the vehicle and everything around it.”
