THINKING of going electric? If your daily range is less than 60 miles, then the Nissan e-NV200 could be for you. It’s due to go on sale in June.
The van combines the all-electric, battery-powered drivetrain from the Nissan LEAF car, and the cargo volume of the NV200 van.
The e-NV200’s has a range of 105.6 miles (170km), greater than the average 62 miles covered by more than half the fleets that use this class of van. The payload and cargo area is the same as the standard NV200.
The Nissan e-NV200’s battery can be recharged overnight using a domestic 16-amp single-phase 3.3kW supply which reduces to four hours if a 6.6kW/32 amp supply is used. A dedicated CHAdeMO DC 50 kW quick charger can recharge the battery from 0-80% in just 30 minutes or less if the battery is already partly charged.
Although based on the existing NV200 hardware, the Nissan e-NV200 has undergone a full engineering development programme as if it were new from the ground up.
The drivetrain has been re-engineered, and changes made to the shell ensure there has been no compromise to the NV200’s cargo space of 4.2cu m.
It can carry two standard Euro pallets and sliding side doors on both sides and wide opening rear doors make loading and unloading as easy as possible.
The Nissan e-NV200 has a new instrument panel with a digital read out.
The gear selector has been simplified – shifting like a conventional automatic rather than the computer-style joystick of LEAF, which is said to help drivers swopping between conventional and electric vans acclimatise more quickly.
