Arval UK has released a video for new electric vehicle (EV) company car drivers, intending to help them adapt to their vehicle safely.

The video aims to help new EV drivers adapt to regenerative braking, the faster acceleration of EVs, the quietness of the vehicles around pedestrians and longer stopping distances.

It also teaches drivers to plan ahead to manage range.

The video is presented by TV host Kevin Harris and is available to all fleets and their drivers.

Ian Pearson, head of insurance at Arval UK, said: “We now have several years of experience with electric cars and know much more about the nature of safety issues that drivers encounter when using them.

“This knowledge has been used to underpin the content of the video.

“Our core message is very much that electric cars are in many respects similar to the petrol or diesel vehicles to which drivers are accustomed, but their torque, weight and quietness do mean they need to be driven slightly differently.

“It’s also important that drivers spend time familiarising themselves with the high level of technology with which they are equipped.

“An understanding of range is essential and most are also fitted with a wide range of advanced safety devices.

“The theme of Road Safety Week for 2025 was the importance of safer vehicles and, in many respects, new electric cars are a substantial improvement over their predecessors thanks to the advance of technology.

“However, it is important to realise that road safety is not just about vehicles and technology. Arguably more important are the creation of safety cultures and behaviours both within individual fleets and across the industry as a whole.

“At Arval, we work hard to create awareness of this subject and the new video is just the latest in a range of resources we make available to all vehicle operators.”
