Audi has announced UK prices and specification for the latest A6 and S6, which will for the first time be electric vehicles (EVs).

The new A6 e-tron and S6 e-tron replace the previous A6 and S6 models in line with Audi’s strategy of giving it EVs even number designations and combustion-engined (ICE) cars odd numbers – the ICE successor to the former A6 is expected to return in 2025 as the A7.

The A6, which has the task of taking on BMW’s segment-leading 5 Series in the executive car market, is available in Sportback (saloon) and Avant (estate) body styles, with the initial options, dubbed performance, boasting impressive specifications including ranges significantly over 400 miles.

The A6 Sportback is priced from £69,900 and the Avant £71,700, fitted with a rear-wheel-drive powertrain of 380hp and 580Nm of torque, giving them a 0-62mph time of 5.4 seconds and a terminal speed of 130mph.

The more potent S6 variants cost from £97,500 and £99,300 respectively, making use of Audi’s Quattro all-wheel-drive transmission allied to a 550hp/840Nm drivetrain. Both pass 62mph from rest in 3.9 seconds and can go on to 1§49mph.

The cars’ range will likely be the core focus of potential business users – the rear-drive variants are quoted at up to 463 miles (Sportback) and 437 miles (Avant), with the S6 equivalents 405 and 388 miles respectively.

All versions of the new A6 are based on Audi’s Premium Platform Electric (PPE) platform with a 100kWh battery and 800-volt technology, including a DC charging capability of up to 270 kW. This means that using a suitable fast charger the A6 Sportback, for example, can add 192 miles of rang tin 10 minutes and go from 10% to 80% capacity in 21 minutes.

The cars are also fitted with a heat pump as standard and an energy recuperation system that operates in 95% of braking instances and can replenish up to 220kW, returning otherwise wasted energy to the battery.

Audi states that the new A6 e-tron Sportback is the most aerodynamic production model’s in the history of the brand and in the VW group, with an exceptionally low drag coefficient of 0.21. The Avant’s value of 0.24 is also one of the best in the segment.

The new A6 e-tron models will be offered in Audi’s familiar Sport, S line and Edition 1 trim levels, with the S6 initially on sale exclusively in Edition 1 specification, and first Uk deliveries are expected in February 2025. Audi has stated that more versions will be unveiled at a later date.
