The Audi RS Q3 Performance is the quickest RS version of Audi’s baby SUV, which is now available with a ’Performance’ badged range-topper, with power up to 362bhp and 0-62mph acceleration in just 4.4 seconds!

What’s hot?

• That reworked version of the 2.5-litre, 20-valve, turbo five-cylinder engine, which when fitted with an improved cooling system and fuel pump has seen the power in this ‘Performance’ range-topper rise to a scarcely believable 362bhp. It is torquey too, boasting a massive 362lb/ft, acceleration to 62mph in just 4.4 seconds and a licence-losing 167mph top speed against the limited 155 for the RS Q3. Being a five-cylinder engine, it has the charismatic deep, burbling fast Audi engine note, which is sure to raise a smile when accelerating. It is well mated to the quick-shifting seven-speed S-Tronic automatic transmission putting the power down through the quattro permanent all-wheel drive.

• Such a big engine in such a small SUV should cause problems, but not with the Audi RS Q3 Performance, as Audi have obviously worked hard to give this car a chassis fit for the performance and you can tell. Body roll and body control are impressive considering its tall stance. We were even quite impressed at the ride on the 20-inch alloys.
• The RS Q3 isn’t cheap at £47,850, but as you’d expect from an Audi at this price, you’ll not want for standard equipment, which includes dual-zone climate control, Bluetooth, a DAB radio, rear parking sensors and cruise control. Out test car totalled £51,925 with a few extra options!
• The inside of the RS Q3 Performance impresses like any other Audi, with a comfy driving position and logically placed switchgear. The quality of the plastics and leathers feels a cut above rivals and justifies Audi’s premium image.

What’s not?

• Lifeless steering lets down an otherwise convincingly sporty package.
• With emissions of 203g/km and the 37% charge, the RS Q3 Performance isn’t a company car that’s going to be cheap to run.
• Space in the front is fine, but rear room is tight – that curvy roofline eats into head space.

Verdict on the Audi RS Q3 Performance:

If you like the idea of an SUV with sportscar performance and handling, plus you’re not so worried about the emissions and consumption – the RS Q3 might just be the car for you.

This Audi is pricey, but is reasonably practical and a surprisingly complete sporting drive.
