Audi has revealed a coupe-style Sportback variant of its Q5 SUV.

The new model will go on sale in January alongside the standard Q5 which was unveiled in September. First deliveries are expected in May 2025.

The second-generation Q5 Sportback is described as more dynamic than its predecessor, with sporty lines and a strongly sloping rear end. Despite this it will still accommodate 515 litres of luggage, or 470 in the more potent SQ5 version, extending to 1415/1388 litres with the rear seats folded.

Like the stock Q5 the Sportback goes on sale with two petrol engines and surprisingly in today’s industry, a diesel. All three employ Audi’s 48V mild-hybrid technology, boosting torque by up to 230Nm and adding 25hp in power for short periods while reducing CO2 emissions, particularly on start-up.

The entry-level is a 204hp petrol unit with 340Nm of torque and Quattro all-wheel-drive. The 3-litre diesel will offer the same power output but 400Nm of torque while the initial range-topper will be the SQ5, its 3-litre V6 petrol engine offering 367hp and 550Nm of torque, again with Quattro.

Plug-in hybrid versions are expected to be added across the Q5 range in due course, but it could be 2033 before the model offers a full battery-electric variant.

Inside the car boasts the same ‘Digital Stage’ as its SUV sibling – this uses a single panel that stands away from the front fascia and incorporates an 11.9-inch driver’s instrument display and 14.5-inch central infotainment touchscreen. Among the options list will be a separate 10.9-inch touchscreen for the front-seat passenger.

Prices for the Q5 Sportback line-up start at £52,450 on the road which is £2,500 more than the equivalent Q5 SUV. The Sport, S line and Edition 1 trim levels will also mirror those of the stock Q5.
