Dacia will launch its Bigster C-segment SUV into the UK in 2025, the the biggest model the Romanian brand has offered and with the option of both front and all-wheel-drive powertrains.

Based on a concept unveiled in January 2021, the Bigster is described as fully off-road capable and designed to make the C-SUV segment more affordable. It is expected to be cheaper than likely rivals such as the Ford Kuga and Peugeot 5008, but according to industry sources the most expensive Dacia on sale so far with prices predicted to start from around £29,000.

The Bigster will effectively be a big sister to the Dacia Duster. It will be offered with two powertrain options – the existing TCe 140 mild-hybrid unit and the new Hybrid 155. This Renault Group unit combines a 108hp four-cylinder petrol engine, two electric motors, a 1.4 kWh battery (230V) and an automatic electric gearbox. The Bigster is the first group model to go on sale with the unit, making it the most powerful Dacia to date.

The mild-hybrid version will also be offered in all-wheel drive form, mated to a six-speed manual gearbox and aimed at those who need proper off-road ability. With previous sales success among rural buyers Dacia is clearly targeting the market that might in the past have bought a Land Rover Defender, highlighting such features as the Bigster’s large 667-litre boot, 40/20/20 bench seat for carrying longer items and modular roof bars, as well as the robust body protection and hard-wearing interior materials.

However the brand adds that the Bigster will also offer plenty of up-to-date technology, including a 10.1-inch central touchscreen, digital instrument panel and a powered tailgate, plus desirables including dual-zone climate control and a panoramic sunroof.
