BMW 320D EfficientDynamics: winning formula

BMW RAN out the winner of the Energy Saving Trust Fleet Hero Awards – designed to highlight firms in the company car industry committed to reducing CO2 emissions – in the Industry Supplier category.

It’s not difficult to see why the Fleet Hero judges put BMW at the top of the list for the brand’s heady combination of desirable motor cars, low emissions, and low taxation levels.

“BMW has to be commended for introducing fuel-saving EfficientDynamics technology across its entire range, while producing cars that drivers aspire to,” commented Julie Jenner, chair of the Association of Car Fleet Operators, and one of the Fleet Hero judges.

EfficientDynamics is the combination of fuel-saving technologies – such as stop-start, energy recuperation, and so on – that gives BMW cars low CO2 emission figures.

Low emission cars save on company car tax and reduce business car operating costs through better tax breaks.

“Worldwide BMW has sold 1.5m cars with EfficientDynamics,” commented Stephen Chater, BMW’s corporate operations manager, who accepted the award. “Last year that meant a saving of 33m gallons of fuel and 373,000 tonnes of carbon –in the UK alone we saved 54,000 tonnes.”

Next year BMW will introduce the BMW 320D EfficientDynamics.

The car will have 163hp, but only 109g/km CO2 – which means just a 13% company car tax band rating – and a 100% first year writing down allowance on Corporation Tax.
