BMW has announced that it will introduce electric vehicle (EV) M models based on the Neue Klasse range from 2027.

All BMW M EV models will have one electric motor per wheel, enabling precise power distribution and optimal traction.

The cars will be able to decouple the front axle, allowing for a rear wheel drive experience.

Other new features will include simulated gear shifts, M-specific sounds, specially tuned control software and battery cooling system optimisation.

On M Neue Klasse models, the battery will serve as a structural component, improving vehicle stiffness.

The battery will have more than 100kWh of usable capacity and has been optimised for road and track use.

BMW M said all cars will have a long range, high charging performance and efficient energy recuperation.

Franciscus van Meel, managing director at BMW M GmbH, said: “The next generation of models are set to establish a new benchmark in the high-performance vehicle segment.

The cars will also feature natural fibre elements, which offer similar properties to carbon fibre, but are produced using 40% less CO2.
