Bosch has launched the SMP290, a Bluetooth-enabled Micro Electromechanical System (MEMS) tyre pressure sensor.
The SMP290 monitors tyre pressure, tyre temperature, as well as acceleration across two axis, with a lifespan of up to 10 years thanks to low power consumption.
Bluetooth connectivity allows secure communication between the sensor and the vehicle, but also enables two-way communication, enabling over-the-air updates.
The sensor can also share communication modules with other vehicle components, such as a keyless access system, simplifying installation.
Peter Wolfangel, member of the management board with responsibility for development at Bosch Mobility Electronics, said: “The Bluetooth functionality not only improves efficiency but also safety throughout the entire lifetime of the sensor.
“The SMP290 is designed as an integrated system and can therefore make optimum use of synergies within a vehicle’s hardware and software.
“This contributes to a more efficient and leaner design that benefits the vehicle throughout its entire life cycle.
The SMP290 can communicate with other Bluetooth systems, and can connect to a driver’s phone, allowing for easier tyre pressure monitoring.
The tyre pressure sensor has already been nominated for ‘Best Automotive & Mobility Solution’ at the Best Sensors Awards 2025, with the decision set to be announced on 25th June, at the Santa Clara Convention Centre in California.
