BYD has entered the UK compact commercial vehicle market with the launch of the DOLPHIN Cargo e-Van, an electric van conversion based on the DOLPHIN hatchback.
The manufacturer said the vehicle offers an urban electric range of up to 347 miles WLTP, alongside a combined WLTP range of 265 miles.
The conversion is carried out in the UK, with BYD saying the approach supports local engineering expertise while tailoring the vehicle to British commercial operator requirements.
The DOLPHIN Cargo e-Van is created by removing the rear seats from the standard hatchback and installing a metal bulkhead behind the front seats, creating 1,093 litres of load space, including 47 litres of underfloor storage.
Load dimensions include a maximum load length of 1,250mm, a minimum width between the wheel arches of 1,018mm and a maximum load height of 710mm.
BYD said the van is powered by a 204PS electric motor paired with a 60.4kWh battery. An optional 70mph speed limiter will also be available for fleet customers.
The vehicle uses BYD’s Blade Battery technology, based on Lithium Iron Phosphate chemistry and designed to improve durability and temperature resistance.
Specification is based on the DOLPHIN Comfort trim level and includes Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) capability, allowing external equipment to be powered directly from the vehicle.
Standard equipment also includes a heat pump, heated steering wheel, heated front seats, a 360-degree parking camera and smartphone connectivity through Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
BYD said businesses will also be able to specify bespoke fleet modifications including reversing alarms, warning beacons, vehicle livery and customised storage solutions.
The DOLPHIN Cargo e-Van is available to order now through participating UK retailers, priced from £29,358 excluding VAT.
