BYD has launched Blade Battery 2.0, its next-generation electric vehicle (EV) battery, and FLASH Charging, a 1,500kW EV charger.

Blade Battery 2.0 will launch in Europe on the Z9GT from BYD’s premium brand Denza, with the technology enabling 5% better energy density and faster charging.

BYD said that capacity degradation was reduced by 2.5% when compared with the original Blade Battery.

When tested to Chinese standards, the battery was capable of more than 620 miles on a single charge.

4,239 FLASH Charging stations have been installed in China and BYD said that it will soon make the technology available globally.

When combined with the Blade Battery 2.0, it can charge from 10% to 70% in five minutes, or 10% to 97% in nine minutes.

BYD tested the technology in temperatures as low as -30 degrees Celsius and found that a 10% to 97% charge took 12 minutes.

FLASH Charging uses a T-shaped overhead design, combined with a pulley-sliding system and a lighter connector to make the charger easier to handle.
