BYD has launched the Dolphin G DM-i, a plug-in hybrid (PHEV) B-segment hatchback, sized similarly to the Volkswagen Polo and Renault Clio.
The Dolphin G DM-i is BYD’s first car to be developed specifically for overseas markets, including Europe.
BYD says it has a range of 621 miles on a full charge and tank of fuel.
It will go on sale in the coming weeks, with first deliveries before the end of Q3.
Electric-only range has not been revealed, but BYD said the Dolphin G DM-i should be able to tackle daily commutes on electric power alone.
Stella Li, executive vice president at BYD, said: “The European B-segment is one of the most important parts of the market, and with Dolphin G DM-i, we want to redefine what customers can expect from a compact car in the electric era.
“By bringing long electric range, intelligent hybrid technology and advanced digital features into an accessible compact vehicle, we are making sustainable mobility smarter, more practical and available to many more people across Europe.”
