Cenex and Energy Saving Trust will assist in the delivery of the Government’s Depot Charging Scheme (DCS), part of the £63m electric vehicle (EV) infrastructure scheme.

The £30m scheme, funded by the Department for Transport (DfT), will support the installation of 3,000 van and 200 HGV charge points.

Cenex and Energy Saving Trust will provide technical support to grant administrators and applicants, including: cost benchmarks for installations, guidance on infrastructure planning, and assessment frameworks for technical and cost-related criteria.

The Government Grants Management Service (GGMS) will also be supported, with the companies providing expert input during the application review process.

Nick Harvey, senior programme manager at Energy Saving Trust, said: “For many years, Energy Saving Trust has been a trusted source of expert advice and support to UK fleets on the road to decarbonisation.

“This new scheme is vital, as it directly addresses one of the main barriers: the cost of installing charging infrastructure.

“We’re proud to partner with Cenex to provide the expert guidance businesses need to reduce their emissions and lower running costs by making a confident switch to electric vehicles.”

The DCS grant is open now, and will allow van, HGV, and coach fleets to claim up to 75% of the costs of procuring and installing chargers, up to a cost of £1m.

Energy Saving Trust and Cenex have 20 years experience in the zero emissions commercial vehicle sector, and will collaborate closely with original equipment manufacturers (OEMs), distribution network operators (DNOs), as well as charge point providers, to establish evidence-based cost benchmarks.

The companies aim to complete the Depot Charging Scheme project by the end of Q1 2026.

Chris Rimmer, head of department for policy, strategy and implementation at Cenex said: “We are delighted to be supporting this scheme with expert input from the Cenex and Energy Saving Trust.

“Facilitating the deployment of quality infrastructure into depots will be a crucial step in accelerating the electrification of vans, coaches and HGVs, which are the next big challenge for transport decarbonisation”
