Cost remains biggest barrier to EV adoption for businesses, finds Europcar
Sentiment among businesses towards EVs is improving, with 21% of respondents saying that no barriers stand in the way of adoption.
Europcar has released its 2025 Electric Vehicle (EV) Barometer, which found that cost remains the biggest barrier to adoption for businesses.
38% of business drivers surveyed in 2025 said that cost was a barrier to switching to an EV fleet, down only a small amount from 39.77% in 2024.
Europcar found that sentiment among businesses towards EVs was improving, with 21% of respondents saying that no barriers stood in the way of EV adoption for their employer, compared to 11.33% the previous year.
Confidence in charging infrastructure has improved, as 29.12% of those surveyed cited it as an issue, compared with 35.55% in 2024.
A lack of knowledge of EVs was cited by 16.83%, compared with 20.6% last year, while 14.29% said that a lack of vehicle choice was an issue, down from 18.12% in 2024.
Employer or employee resistance remained an issue, with 13.58% of survey respondents citing it in 2025 and 14.01% citing it the previous year.
Tom Middleditch, sustainability spokesperson at Europcar, said: “It is clear that barriers to switching to EV do still remain for many businesses, but it is very encouraging to see overall perceptions moving in the right direction.
“The improvements in UK-wide charging infrastructure, better understanding of the reality of electric driving and the growing range of vehicle options available are having a positive impact.
