How do dealerships investigate the cars they buy?

CAR dealerships have worked hard to shrug off the wheeler-dealer stereotype and need to go through rigorous checks to investigate the cars they buy and sell on to ensure they have a good history.

Gone are the days of the dodgy dealer as depicted back in the 1980s by TV shows like Minder and Only Fools and Horses! This also means customers, particularly those in business, are going to pass on a positive review of their experience.

We look at the ways car dealerships can check on the cars they get in, to ensure they meet high standards. In 2015, the laws changed, allowing all consumers a 30-day period after buying a car to cool off and/ or change their minds.

This has helped change this old opinion of the car salesperson and means that any dealership worth their salt will be doing all they can to ensure customer satisfaction.

Trusted relationships

Just as you would prefer to visit a dealership with a good reputation, many car dealers build trust relationships with people whose cars they can trust. This is developed through word of mouth, just as is any other relationship in sales.

Checking mileage

This relates back to the importance of the relationship, since some people selling cars are familiar with clocking techniques in order to sell cars. However, just as you would as a client, checking the mileage is a good place to start with making sure a car is investigated.

Using a history checking service

The most effective way to check on any new assets as a car dealer is by employing the service of history checking software. It would be nice to believe that all the information the sellers furnish us with are 100% truth, however there are sadly some dodgy characters in the world who upset things for everyone.

cap hpi are one company who offer a very comprehensive history checking service. This guards the dealership against dodgy owners who may be trying to conceal the true past or history of the vehicle.

Sadly cloning and other such crimes are becoming commonplace and getting a full HPI check protects both the dealer and any subsequent buyer from anything untoward being hidden in the purchase.
