Mercedes-Benz has announced a wide-ranging programme of updates to its model line-up, including the availability of plug-in hybrid diesel engines on its E-class saloon and GLE 4×4 SUV.
The two are now available to order with the powertrain that combines a four-cylinder 2.0-litre diesel engine with a high-voltage battery hybrid unit, of 25.4kWh in the E-Class and 31.2kWh in the GLE. Mercedes quotes electric only ranges of the two models of up to 68 and 63 miles respectively, with the E-Class costing from £66,610 on the road and the GLE £77,360.
The G-class, long regarded as the most off-road capable of all Mercedes-Benz 4x4s, was recently made available as an all-electric model alongside its petrol and diesel variants.
Other newly-announced Mercedes-Benz updates include a new plug-in hybrid variant of the CLE 300 four-seat two-door coupe. Combined system output its 313hp with 550Nm of torque, producing a 6.3-second 0-62mph time and the car can complete up to 69 miles on electric power.
An official CO2 emissions figure of 13g/km means the CLE 300 e, comes with a benefit-in-kind tax figure for 2024/25 of 8%. Prices start from £60,610.
Both the EQE and EQE SUV electric models have had their range increased. The single-motor 350+ drivetrain gets a larger 96kWh battery and a more powerful motor, giving the saloon a range of up to 429 miles and a 0-62mph time of 6.5 seconds – an improvement of 49 miles and almost a second over the previous 300 model.
The SUV in 350+ form can now clock up 376 miles, 43 miles better than previously while the larger two-motor 500 4MATIC powertrain is now available in both vehicles with a range of up to 385 miles between charges. EQE saloon prices start at £69,105 and the SUV at £74,495.
Notable among further updates across the Mercedes-Benz range is that the majority of plug-in hybrid models now offer faster DC charging as standard.
