Drivers urged to be wary of motorcyclists on darker evenings – Carole Nash

Motorcycle insurance broker Carole Nash has urged drivers to be wary of motorcyclists as the evenings get darker.

Carole Nash warned that motorcyclists are among the most vulnerable road users and that motorcycle-related accidents typically surge in the winter.

It said that drivers should double-check before manoeuvring and keep windscreens clean, as motorcycles often travel faster than they appear and can be difficult to spot.

Carole Nash also advised drivers to give motorcycles the same amount of space as a car and be patient.

Research conducted by the company found that 53% of motorcyclists have been involved in a road accident, 64% of whom said it was the fault of other road users.

Daniel Nield, an expert from Carole Nash, said: “Motorcyclists are among the most vulnerable road users, so visibility is everything, and we’re urging road users to stay safe and look out for each other as the nights draw in.

“In poor weather conditions, riders often follow in the tyre tracks of the car ahead to find drier road.

“Motorists should be mindful of this, avoid sudden braking, and always signal clearly.
