BVRLA launches updated guide for business van managers

A revised Guide to Driving at Work has been launched by the British Vehicle Rental & Leasing Association (BVRLA). The safety guide can be used as a reference to assist managing health and safety within the workplace. The BVRLA says it should be read by everyone who is involved with driving on business. Included in the Guide to Driving at Work is advice on how to put together a driving at work policy. The BVRLA says that, if the advice is followed, it will demonstrate to health & safety inspectors that your business has taken all reasonable steps to protect your staff and other road users. Among the items included in the new Guide to Driving at Work are:

• Revised and updated sections on the vehicle, the driver and the journey which take into account recent legislative and technological developments
• Practical case studies that demonstrate the business benefits of implementing some of the recommendations in the guide
• Information on telematics, monitoring devices and other technical solutions which may assist in safer driving and reducing accident costs
• Advice on towing, vehicle loading and equipment – added to help LCV operators
• A section on grey fleet, which covers staff who use their own vehicles and highlights the potential extra cost to business
