DS Automobiles DS4 2.0 BlueHDi 150 Prestige review:
What is it?
The second model from the new French luxury brand that’s now separate from sister brand Citroen.
More than just a re-nosed DS4, on top of losing the double chevron badging, the DS version of the DS4 boasts changes to the dynamics, an upgraded interior and there’s more chance to personalise.
But is it enough to take on the premium opposition from Audi and BMW? We took the 2.0-litre BlueHDi 150 diesel, in range-topping Prestige trim for a spin to find out.
What’s hot?
- Diesel is expected to be the best-selling fuel in the DS4 range and this is the mid-power version with 150PS. A refined and torquey engine, top speed is 129mph and 0-62mph acceleration 8.8 seconds, yet emissions are 103 g/km and this DS4 is capable of 72.4mpg on the Combined cycle.
- The low CO2 emissions mean the DS4 2.0 BlueHDi 150 Prestige falls into the 19% company car tax band for 2015/16.
- Like the bigger DS5 before it, the exterior changes for the DS4 are significant and mostly revolve around the new chrome ‘DS Wings’ grille which seamlessly blends in with the new LED headlights. On top of the lights and grille, the new DS4 has a more sculpted bonnet and a new front airdam. At the side, the hidden rear handles and sculpted side design remain. Move to the back and apart from the badging, plus new rear airdam, the DS4 looks unchanged from the last Citroen version.
- Not sporty and not that engaging to drive, but some of the suspension changes made to the DS4 have been worthwhile. Body control is excellent and grip is good too.
- In range-topping Prestige trim, the DS4 has an impressive level of standard equipment including LED headlights, pulsing indicators, leather trim, a blind spot indictor system, a reversing camera and plenty of safety kit. Overall the DS4 is a high-value package when you compare it against premium opposition from Audi and BMW.
