German logistics and delivery company EBD has reported a reduction in fleet damage costs by 30% since implementing Samsara fleet management technology across its vehicle operations.

EBD said the reduction was achieved over 2.5 years following the rollout of Samsara’s telematics and fleet monitoring systems across more than 140 vehicles.

The company also reported a reduction of between four and five hours of administrative work per week through the use of Driver ID tokens and digital fleet management tools.

Originally founded in 1987, EBD has expanded from a regional postal delivery business into a wider logistics and last-mile delivery operator serving North Rhine-Westphalia and the Rhine-Ruhr region.

According to the business, the growth of its fleet and operations created new fleet management challenges, including rising accident and damage costs.

EBD said its previous GPS-based tracking system only provided vehicle location and geofencing functions, without the ability to proactively analyse incidents or monitor driving behaviour.

The company said damage-related costs had reached up to €1.3m annually before the implementation of Samsara technology.

Following a market review in 2022, EBD selected Samsara as its fleet management provider and installed 130 Samsara vehicle gateways with integrated AI dashcams, alongside 55 engine immobilisers.

Around 80 drivers were also issued with Driver ID tokens, which EBD said removed the need for manual logbook management.

The system provides real-time tracking, technical alerts and driving behaviour monitoring.

Matthias Bunk, managing director of the EBD Group, said: “The implementation of Samsara has taken our fleet management to a whole new level.

“Real-time tracking and comprehensive analysis of driving behavior have not only enhanced driver safety but also optimised the overall control and transparency of our fleet.

“Additionally, we have significantly reduced administrative tasks, greatly improving office efficiency, particularly through the use of Driver ID tokens.”

Bunk added: “Nowadays, no company can afford to rely on outdated systems. Samsara gave us the tools to operate our fleet more efficiently and safely while increasing transparency in driver behavior.”
