Employers are turning to EV salary sacrifice schemes to help attract and keep staff, according to Tusker’s latest EV Employer Survey.

The survey, carried out with Tusker’s own customer base, found 34% of UK employers already offer a scheme, with another 19% planning to bring one in within the next two years.

Nearly half (48%) of employers said having an EV salary sacrifice scheme has helped with attracting and retaining people.

Half of employers said the scheme is counted as a top-three work perk.

More than a quarter said it was in their top two benefits.

On the employee side, 27% of employees with an electric vehicle said the scheme made them more likely to stay with their current employer, while 60% of jobseekers said access to a scheme would influence their decision to join a company.

Tusker’s survey also found 71% of employers said the process of adopting electric vehicles was simple.

More than half (52%) of employers said the scheme delivered national insurance savings, with 43% of these reinvesting savings into more employee benefits or wider organisational initiatives.

Employers said their main reasons for bringing in a scheme were to enable employee savings (32%), make electric driving more affordable (23%), meet employee demand (13%) and generate national insurance savings (10%).

Nearly three quarters (72%) said the scheme gave employees an affordable way to drive electric vehicles, while 61% said the scheme helps employees make financial savings.

“Companies face multiple challenges of trying to manage rising costs while also improving employee satisfaction.

“EV Salary Sacrifice Schemes are increasingly seen as a practical and reliable option in response.”

Wisdom added: “It’s particularly positive that businesses no longer see electric vehicles as something for the future – now they are a normal and accessible employee benefit that many companies are able to offer.”
