The average diameter of tyres fitted to fleet internal combustion engine (ICE) and electric cars has increased by an inch since 2023, according to new data from epyx.

Information from the company’s 1link Service Network service, maintenance and repair platform showed the average tyre fitted to an ICE car measured 17 inches in 2023 at an average price of £109.

By the end of 2025, this had risen to 18 inches and £122.

For electric cars, average tyre size increased from 18 inches and £190 in 2023 to 19 inches and £214 over the same period.

Tim Meadows, chief commercial officer at epyx, said: “There’s several ongoing trends here – most cars are getting bigger, SUVs are becoming more popular and larger wheels are preferred for cosmetic reasons – that are together driving increased tyre sizes.

“However, there’s no real upside for businesses operating cars. Not only do bigger wheels have a direct impact on tyre prices but also on replacement – larger, wider tyres tend to be more susceptible to punctures and kerb damage.

“This leaves fleets in a position where they are spending more and more on tyres over time and, as can be seen from our information, this is especially true for ICE and petrol models.”

According to the data, tyre sizes for hybrid cars have remained stable at 18 inches since 2023, while average prices fell from £181 to £166.

Meadows added: “There is no obvious reason why hybrids should be less susceptible to tyre size growth but it is reasonable to suggest these models are quite often more practical choices than electric cars, which still tend to be larger and more expensive, and petrol cars, which are sometimes bought for their performance.

“However, what is clear from the platform is that fleets operating hybrids are making savings on tyres compared to those with other fuel types.”

epyx said its 1link Service Network platform is used by UK fleets to process almost 20,000 company car, van and truck SMR job sheets each day, covering fleets totalling 4.9 million vehicles and working with more than 8,500 suppliers.
