Ford has announced the start of volume production of the E-Transit Courier, completing the electric line-up of the Ford Pro light Commercial Vehicle division.
The E-Transit Courier will go on sale alongside the already available E-Transit, E-Transit Custom and E-Tourneo Custom. The compact van offers a maximum range of up to 186 miles between charges, the ability to take a 700kg payload, up by 218kg over the previous Transit Courier, and a loadspace increased by 25%, enabling the new model to accommodate two Euro pallets. Larger than every dimension compared to the outgoing Transit Courier, the electric model offers a load length at floor level increased by 182mm to 1803mm, or 2661 with a through-loading bulkhead, a width between wheel arches increase of 208mm to 1220mm plus 9mm of extra height, at 1253mm. the E-Transit Courier also boasts a ‘frunk’ under the bonnet where the engine of a traditional model would be, with a 44-litre volume particularly suitable for storing such items as charging cables. The new van is being built at the Ford Otosan European electric plant in Cralova, Romania, alongside the Puma Gen-E compact crossover and E-Tourneo Courier van-based people carrier – production of both models has also just commenced.
All three new vehicles use electric drive units produced at Ford’s facility in Halewood, UK and parts produced at the brand’s component plant in Cologne, Germany.
General manager of Ford Blue and Model e in Europe, Jon Williams, described the start of production as the latest in an incredible journey for Ford; “from introducing our first electric vehicle in Europe, the Mustang Mach-E, to now offering a broad range of electric cars and commercial vehicles in just a few years.”
He added that the three new vehicles would further enhance Ford’s existing electric vehicle range. “There is a choice of vehicles to suit both private and business customers, opening up the benefits of electric mobility to an even wider audience.”
