“The new van’s fuel economy is exceptional – which is what users want to keep their costs down,” reckons Paolo. “But it’s the EcoBoost petrol engine that’s the stand out feature. One litre and three cylinders for a van – that can take a 600kg payload? It’s exceptional. You get power and fuel economy. I know everyone prefers diesel but the petrol engine is a game changer. “You can really work out if it’s worth paying the extra for diesel. It allows the customer to make the decision: which is best for me?”

The rear bumper of the Transit Courier is slightly angled. “It’s for insurance purposes,” explains Paulo. “If you touch a car when reversing with the offset you won’t damage the sheet metal on your van – which would happen with a standard bumper. It’s key to the cost of ownership proposition that the Transit Courier provides. It shows that we really have thought about the details.”

To light up the loading area, Ford has provided optional LEDs to illuminate the cargo area. “This is my fifth and favourite item,” adds Paulo with a smile. “It means loading at night or early in the morning is now not a case of fumbling around in the dark. The LEDs really do illuminate the complete cargo area. It shows that we really have thought about the details.     “Like I said, none of this is exceptional. It’s basic stuff – but it’s getting the basics right that make the Transit Courier a really good ownership proposition.”
