Fraikin has invested £1.5 million to bring in 30 new 3.5-tonne mobile technician vans

Fraikin has invested £1.5m in 30 new 3.5-tonne mobile technician vans as part of its national vehicle maintenance strategy. The new vehicles will support its target of deploying 50 mobile technicians by the end of 2025, helping reduce downtime for fleet customers through on-site servicing and roadside support.

Each van includes a specialist racking system, a multi-purpose workbench, storage cases and a full suite of diagnostic tools. These features are designed to allow technicians to identify and fix issues quickly at the roadside or at a customer’s premises.

John Cunningham, UK customer and fleet solutions director at Fraikin, said: “This major £1.5m investment ensures Fraikin’s mobile maintenance fleet can continue to provide best-in-class up-time for our customers, wherever they are located in the UK. We’ve placed significant focus on providing our team with the training, tools and equipment to effectively turn these vans into fully stocked workshops on wheels.”

Fraikin’s technicians are qualified to level two of the IMI IRTEC Licensing Scheme, with additional training introduced for electric vehicles, temperature-controlled units and other specialist systems. The aim is to increase the range of issues resolved in a single visit.

Richard Clarke, head of technical network at Fraikin, said: “By expanding the skills of our technician fleet, we’re reinforcing our ability to deliver dedicated maintenance support to fleets of all sizes across all sectors. Our team are highly qualified, supporting customers with a diverse set of skills, deep technical knowledge and a thorough understanding of the latest vehicle innovations and technologies.”

Welfare upgrades to the new vans include heated hand wash stations, night heaters and microwave ovens. Each vehicle is also fitted with Fraikin’s MYSMARTFLEET technology, which includes telematics, a 360° AI-powered camera system, and driver welfare monitoring linked to the control centre in Coventry.

In 2024, Fraikin’s mobile technician network attended 20,000 service events across the UK.
