Fraikin has bolstered its standing in the public sector fleet space after winning a three-year contract with the Department for Environment, Food & Rural Affairs (DEFRA), covering the servicing, maintenance and compliance of 1,720 assets.
The agreement sees Fraikin take responsibility for commercial vehicles and ancillary equipment used by the Animal & Plant Health Agency, the Environment Agency, and Natural England. The company will provide full fleet management support from its Coventry headquarters and a network of mobile technicians across 280 locations nationwide.
Peter Backhouse, chief executive officer at Fraikin, said: “I’m hugely proud of the hard work our team has put in to secure such an important fleet management contract with DEFRA. We’re looking forward to building upon our new relationship, demonstrating how Fraikin can provide total support for its agency fleets, leaving them to focus instead on their core responsibilities.”
The fleet includes 949 4x4s, 572 light commercial vehicles, 161 trailers, 36 HGVs, 10 cars and more than 800 pieces of ancillary equipment, such as heaters, winches and cranes. Fraikin will handle all vehicle servicing, licensing, documentation and maintenance to ensure high fleet availability and minimise unplanned costs.
DEFRA will also gain access to the FRAIKinVIEW portal, giving it a full overview of vehicle scheduling, compliance and maintenance documentation in real time.
In addition, Fraikin will work with DEFRA on its long-term decarbonisation goals, supporting the transition of its fleet to net zero.
