VOLKSWAGEN has started taking orders for the eco-orientated BlueMotion version of the new seventh-generation Golf – and there’s plenty to interest tax-aware and cost-conscious company car drivers.
The new car delivers CO2 emissions of just 85g/km, quite an improvement over the 99g/km achieved by the previous model. Combined cycle fuel consumption is 88.3 mpg.

Under the bonnet, the Golf BlueMotion has a 1.6-litre 110PS common rail TDI engine from the EA288 range.
Among the fuel-saving enhancements incorporated into the new engine are reduced internal friction, exhaust gas recirculation and a water-cooled intercooler in the intake manifold.
Emissions are helped by the adoption of an oxidation catalytic converter, a diesel particulate filter and a NOx storage catalytic converter.
And the rest of the car gets some useful pence per mile saving tweaks as well – low rolling resistance tyres, longer gear ratios, a stop-start system, a lowered ride height and drag-reducing aero mods such as special underfloor panels are all part of the package.
On-the-road prices start at £20,335 for the three-door model and £20,990 for the five-door. Spec levels are based on the standard Golf S. First deliveries expected in August.
