G&M Direct Hire, a Public Carriage Office (PCO) car hire provider, has used Samsara artificial intelligence (AI) technology to streamline its fleet operations, saving £5.2m in operational costs.
Since adopting the Samsara AI-powered Connected Operations Platform, G&M has seen a 21% reduction in accidents, attributed to the use of Samsara’s AI dash cams, which alone has saved £1.8m.
The platform allows G&M to monitor its entire fleet through one platform, connecting to AI dashcams, and GPS tracking.
The technology has also assisted with the recovery of 55 vehicles, saving £3m, while preventing 940,000 excess miles, saving £400,000.
Case settlement times have been reduced by 50%.
Ghaffar Esmailzadeh, director at G&M Direct Hire, said: “We needed a better understanding of what was happening with our drivers out on the road, how they were driving, where the risks were, and how we could protect them and our vehicles.
“Thanks to Samsara, we can now see everything as it happens, and it’s made a huge difference.”
Prior to adopting Samsara’s technology, G&M was dealing with rising insurance costs, increasing vehicle theft, and was struggling to plan its electric vehicle (EV) transition.
Esmailzadeh said: “Being able to respond quickly to incidents, improve driving behaviour, and lower accident-related costs has helped us save millions and made our fleet much safer.”
Samsara’s data is helping G&M plan fleet electrification, monitoring the usage patterns and routes of individual drivers, suggesting which drivers could use EVs.
The firm currently offers its 4,000 customers a choice of hybrids and EVs, but intends to transition to a fully electric fleet.
