Honda Civic estate
An estate version of the Honda Civic is due next year

“Talking to the CR-V project leader last night – and he’s a big racing fan – he said he wanted this car to be a pleasure to drive.

“And having driven it for the first time yesterday, it put a smile on my face!”

SMEs and small businesses looking for a high spec version will be disappointed though.

There are three variants – S, SE and SR. On the SR you get sat nav as standard and leather can be ordered as an option, but because it comes on the bigger 18 inch wheels, it increases the CO2 emissions beyond 119g/km.

Would Lee consider a ‘business edition’ of the 1.6 CR-V? You know, standard sat nav, leather or part leather, but on the 17 inch wheels at the 119g/km CO2 emission point?

“Once we have stability on sales we can then look at it,” responded Lee guardedly. “But there are no plans for such a vehicle at all.”

I suspect it would be warmly received, but…

In the meantime, with the 1.6 diesel on the Civic, and now in the CR-V, Lee feels Honda is now re-focused on the company car market and small businesses.

“We’ve also got the Honda Civic Wagon launching in spring 2014 and the following year a small SUV, so there’s plenty more to come from Honda,” added Lee.
