Hyundai has revealed the IONIQ 6 N at the Goodwood Festival of Speed, the second high-performance electric vehicle (EV) from its N division.
The electric saloon uses the same rear-biased, dual-motor setup as the IONIQ 5 N, with a total of 650PS when ‘N Grin Boost’ mode is active, in 10 second bursts, or 609PS the rest of the time.
The IONIQ 6 N can accelerate to 62mph in 3.2 seconds, and uses specially-developed Pirelli P-Zero 5 tyres. Top speed is 160mph.
Similar to the IONIQ 5 N, it uses an 84kWh battery, although the battery management system has been tweaked, with faster preconditioning, and better thermal management, for improved performance.
The IONIQ 6 N is yet to undergo WLTP range testing, although Hyundai estimates a range of around 290 miles.
350kW charging allows the car to charge from 10% to 80% in 18 minutes.
A suite of performance features are included as standard: N Launch Control, N Drift Optimiser, N Track Manager, and N Torque Distribution.
N e-Shift, the system that simulates a combustion engine and traditional gearbox, has been recalibrated, with better sound quality, and a shift light feature that uses the car’s ambient lighting system.
Manfred Harrer, head of the vehicle development tech unit at Hyundai, said: “IONIQ 6 N combines formidable power, sophisticated battery management, aerodynamic mastery and advanced suspension systems to deliver a compelling blend of speed, stability and comfort, setting new benchmarks in modern automotive engineering.”
N models also feature redesigned suspension geometry, and a re-engineered chassis, specifically set up for better track performance.
The dampers have integrated stroke sensors, which allow more adjustment in damping force, providing better ride quality and improved handling.
The car also has a motorsport-style swan-neck rear wing, and a series of performance parts will be available directly from Hyundai.
