InstaVolt has officially opened the UK’s largest and most advanced ultra-rapid electric vehicle charging Superhub, located near the A34 and close to junction 9 of the M3 in Winchester.

The new site features 44 ultra-rapid chargers, each delivering up to 160kW, and is designed to serve a broad range of vehicles, including those with trailers, vans, and disabled access needs. It is the first InstaVolt Superhub to incorporate an on-site solar farm alongside battery storage, enabling the site to operate with reduced reliance on the national grid.

Delvin Lane, CEO of InstaVolt, said: “The Winchester Superhub isn’t just a charging hub – it’s a flagship site that sets a new standard for ultra-rapid EV charging. As our largest and most advanced site to date, it delivers industry-leading reliability at an unprecedented scale, ensuring drivers can charge quickly and with confidence.

“This site is also a milestone in innovation, marking our first-ever location where we are generating our own renewable energy – pushing the boundaries of sustainability and self-sufficiency in EV charging. Above all, we are redefining what EV drivers can expect when they charge, seamless, ultra-rapid, and future-proofed charging that makes the switch to electric easier, faster, and more accessible than ever before.”

The 870-panel solar installation and 4MWh battery system enable the site to store and use renewable energy efficiently, improving uptime and lowering operating costs. This approach supports InstaVolt’s long-term goal of driving down public charging costs and accelerating EV adoption.

Amenities at the Winchester Superhub include an on-site Starbucks café, 24/7 toilet facilities, a children’s play area, and a dedicated dog walking zone. Air and water machines allow drivers to carry out basic vehicle maintenance while charging. The site also features low-level LED lighting and enhanced security measures, including CCTV, to ensure safety and comfort for drivers at all hours.

The Winchester Superhub has been designed as a next-generation service station for the EV era, addressing key pain points such as range anxiety, grid constraints and driver convenience, and is expected to become a benchmark for future EV infrastructure projects.
