Jeep has revealed its sixth-generation Cherokee, with electric and hybrid powertrain options promised.

The model will debut later this year, with a European launch expected in 2026.

The previous Cherokee was sold in the UK between 2014 and 2019, before being withdrawn from the entire European market due to slow sales.

Bob Broderdorf, CEO of Jeep, said: “Jeep Cherokee will boast competitive pricing that strikes at the core of the largest vehicle segment and sits perfectly between Jeep Compass and Jeep Grand Cherokee to bolster our winning mainstream line-up.”

Stellantis’ ‘STLA Large’ platform will be used for the new model, moving the model upmarket, away from its previous hatchback-based, front-wheel-drive incarnation.

Powertrain specifications are yet to be revealed, however the platform is shared with the US-only Dodge Charger, which offers up to 317 miles of electric range, and the option of combustion power, via a 3.0-litre twin-turbocharged inline-six.

Stellantis say the platform is capable of up to 500 miles of electric range, although no model offered by the company currently boasts this ability.

Set to debut in Europe with the all-electric Jeep Wagoneer S, the new platform is key to Stellantis’ electrification plans.

Eight vehicles are planned to use the platform, with it set to underpin the next-generation Alfa Romeo Giulia and Stelvio, as well as the next Maserati Levante.
