JOLT has announced plans to expand its ad-funded public electric vehicle (EV) charging network into the Royal Borough of Greenwich.

Subscribers to JOLT are offered 7kWh of free charging each day, the equivalent to around 30 miles of range, subsidised through advertising on 75-inch screens on the chargers.

All chargers are powered with 100% renewable energy.

JOLT has entered into a 15-year partnership with the council, which will see 30 new chargers installed around Greenwich.

The council will also be provided with free use of the screens for public messaging, community announcements and local events.

JOLT has already rolled the solution out in North London, where 77% of residents believe that it has positively impacted the area.

92% of users said they would choose JOLT over other on-street chargers.

John Rainford, UK country manager at JOLT, said: “The UK has a two-tier system for EV drivers, and it’s especially evident in London.

“If you can charge at home, going electric saves money. But if you’re relying on public charging – like millions of Londoners – you’re often paying a pavement premium.

“We’re providing South East London residents with the same opportunity as North London that makes running an EV accessible, whether you’ve got access to home charging or not.

“This isn’t just about charging cars, it’s about making London’s shift to clean transport fair for everyone.”

Research conducted by JOLT found that 90% of their customers shop locally during charging breaks, of which 40% spend £10 or more.
