A Kia EV2 prototype has achieved within 75% of its official range figure in a winter test conducted by the Norwegian Automotive Federation.

The EV2, which was fitted with the larger 61kWh battery and 19-inch wheels, drove 193 miles (310.6km) in temperatures as low as -21 degrees, 24.8% less than its official range of 257 miles.

Kia said that the EV2, despite being a prototype, achieved a higher proportion of its official range than any other car in the test.

On average, cars lost 38% of their range. The cars with the next smallest deviation from their official ranges were the Hyundai Inster and MGS6, both achieving 71% of their official figures.

During the test, the EV2 also DC fast charged from 10% to 80% in 36 minutes, six minutes slower than the official time in ideal conditions.

Pablo Martinez Masip, vice president of product and marketing at Kia Europe, said: “This result serves as proof that the EV2 will continue to deliver reliable range even in extremely low temperatures.

“Being the entry point to Kia’s EV line‑up does not mean compromising; the EV2 offers customers throughout Europe an affordable yet reliable way to enter electric mobility.”

The Kia EV4 also took part in the event, achieving 65% of its official range by completing a 242 mile drive.
