- The Ford Transit-supplied 2.2-litre diesel might be smooth and boast 120bhp, (go for shorter 90 version and power is upped to 148bhp!) but it never feels fast with the old-school aerodynamics and that sturdy roof rack blunting the power. The 25.5 combined mpg figure and 37% tax band mean this would be a business car choice of enthusiasts.
- You’re going to have to really want to own this Defender as it’s definitely not cheap! Our test car with no options fitted, listed at an incredible £43,495!
The Verdict
Old and dated in so many areas, we reckon you’ll have to be a real Land Rover fan to spend over £40,000 on this one and pay the considerable related costs to run it as a business car.
We also think the Adventure Edition is a bit brash and think the Heritage Edition’s steel wheels and green paint are more in keeping with the Defender’s heritage.
Yes there are cheaper, better to drive options, but there’s really nothing like the Defender. Impossible to replace, it will be a sad day when production ceases at the end of this year.
