Larger ECOnetic Ford Transit promises lower running cost

High-cube front-drive model is alternative to rear-drive Transit 350 HR

A NEW larger ECOnetic model has joined the Ford Transit range, and the model offers significantly lower cost of ownership. An operator covering 20,000 miles a year could save well over £3,000 over four years, despite a higher list price, Ford claims. The new model is part of an engine range revamp for the Transit, with cleaner 2.2-litre Duratorq TDCi diesel being added across the range. These new generation engines have full Euro Stage 5 emissions compliance. The new 2.2 diesels replace the existing Transit’s 2.4- and 2.2-litre diesel engines, and will also be used in the new Ranger pick-up, due to start production next month. Power output ranges from 100 to 155PS, with 310 to 385Nm torque, a standard six-speed transmission and more robust clutches for improved driveability. New technology features include smart regenerative charging and an advanced battery management system, while a new ECO Pack option is available across the range, with Auto-Start-Stop and a switchable Speed Limiter for optimum fuel efficiency. The new ECOnetic model is a 125PS, long-wheelbase Transit 350 with medium roof and front-wheel drive, and Ford believes it could be a viable alternative to the popular rear-wheel drive Transit 350 HR 115PS, which is currently the second-best-selling Transit model.Read our Ford Transit ECOnetic road test
