Mazda launches 3rd-generation CX-5 for 2026
The new model adds 61 litres of boot space, as well as wider-opening rear doors and a three-way folding rear seat.
Mazda has revealed the 3rd-generation CX-5, arriving in the UK in 2026, featuring more practicality, a larger standard engine, and brake-by-wire.
At launch, all CX-5s will have a 2.5-litre e-Skyactiv petrol engine, with Mazda’s 24V ‘M Hybrid’ system, which captures energy from braking and uses it to power the car’s electrical system, but does not power the wheels.
It is currently unclear if the diesel engine will continue to be offered, or if a plug-in hybrid model will join the range.
Offered in front or all-wheel-drive configurations, the 2.5-litre engine makes 141PS, 24 less than the outgoing model’s 2.0-litre engine.
Brake-by-wire will be introduced to the CX-5 for the first time.
Jeremy Thomson, managing director at Mazda Motors UK, said: “The Mazda CX-5 is an incredibly important car in Mazda’s history and I’m excited for the third-generation model to join Mazda’s SUV line-up next year.
“From the launch of the original first-generation car in 2012, the CX-5 has been a hugely popular choice for UK SUV buyers who have loved its style, quality and driver engagement, and having recently surpassed 100,000 sales in the UK, it’s clear this ever-popular SUV has seen amazing customer loyalty and satisfaction.“
The new model adds 61 litres of boot space, as well as wider-opening rear doors, and a three-way folding rear seat.
A new central display has been added, with integrated Google Apps, available in 12.9 or 15.6-inches, along with a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster.

Higher-trim models add a 12-speaker Bose sound system, ambient lighting, and a panoramic sunroof.
Thomson said: “It’s incredible to look back and consider just how much the UK market has changed since the CX-5’s launch in 2012.
“The huge increase in the popularity of SUVs means that today the CX-5 sits alongside the 2025 Mazda CX-60, all-new Mazda CX-80 and the smaller Mazda CX-30 in our line-up, but it was the success of the award-winning CX-5 that established Mazda as a maker of genuinely sporty SUVs, which deliver class leading quality and high levels of standard equipment.”
Mazda also updated the CX-5’s advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS), and targets a five-star Euro NCAP safety rating.
The 3rd-generation Mazda CX-5 will be available in the UK from summer 2026.
