Mercedes-Benz has launched the second-generation GLB, available initially as an electric vehicle (EV), with hybrid variants set to join the range later.

The GLB offers up to 392 miles of range, while 162 miles of range can be added in 10 minutes, owing to the car’s 800V electric architecture.

Mercedes-Benz will launch two models initially, the GLB 250+ with EQ Technology and the all wheel drive GLB 350 4MATIC with EQ Technology.

Both models use an 85kWh battery and offer five or seven-seat options. Four child seats can be installed in the second and third row of the GLB.

Following the launch of the initial EV models, Mercedes-Benz will add an entry-level electric model and a 48V hybrid.

4MATIC all wheel drive models operate using only the rear motor until traction is needed, to boost efficiency.

The GLB EV has a 127-litre front boot and a towing capacity of up to two tonnes.

Standard equipment includes DISTRONIC adaptive cruise control, a panoramic roof and artificial intelligence features.

Models equipped with 20-inch wheels add adaptive damping.

The GLB has an illuminated grille with 94 animated LED stars.

Optional equipment includes the MBUX Superscreen, which features three floating displays spanning almost the whole dashboard.

Mathias Geisen, member of the board of management responsible for sales and marketing at Mercedes-Benz Group AG, said: “The all-new GLB is built for everyday life. Available as a 5-or 7-seater, it adapts effortlessly to our customers’ needs.

“With more space, a new design, greater comfort, and even the ability to tow a full-size caravan, it proves that an electric compact SUV can be as versatile as it is capable.”
