MG Motor UK has introduced new petrol-powered entry-level models to its MG3 and ZS ranges, offering an alternative to the already on-sale hybrid variants.

The MG3 SE Petrol costs from £16,495 and according to its makers offers the same safety, comfort and infotainment specification as its hybrid sister which costs £2,000 more.

The ZS SE Petrol goes on sale at £19,495, which is £2,500 less than the hybrid variant and according to MG enabling the purchase of an SUV for the price of many superminis.

Both cars also come with MG’s seven-year/80,000-mile warranty.

Both cars use the same engine, a 1.5-litre four-cylinder petrol unit of 115hp and 148Nm of torque, combined with a five-speed manual transmission. In the MG3 it enables 0-62mph acceleration in 10.8 seconds while returning WLTP combined cycle fuel economy of 46.3mpg. Figures for the ZS are still to be revealed.

Announcing the new arrivals MG Motor UK head of product and planning David Allison said that the new models epitomise the brand’s commitment to delivering market-leading value. “(The MG3) will be the obvious choice for the many drivers who want the option to own a new, compact and fuel-efficient petrol car,” he said.

“Some highly-competitive pricing (on the ZS) will enable customers to enjoy a stylish and spacious SUV for the same price or less than many B-segment superminis,” Allison added.
