MG reveals Plug-in Hybrid+ system ahead of 2027 debut in ZS

MG has revealed Plug-in Hybrid+, its next-generation system, ahead of its production debut in the MG ZS in 2027.
Plug-in Hybrid + uses 1.1 or 1.5-litre turbocharged engines which were specifically designed for hybrid cars, with high thermal efficiency.
A newly-developed gearbox boosts efficiency, with the ability to distribute power between the engine and motors and isolate the generator during electric driving.
Cars with the system are able to accelerate to 62mph in under six seconds, while MG said the system is up to 5dB quieter in electric mode than a conventional PHEV.
The system will enter production in Q1 2027, in the first-ever MG ZS Plug-in Hybrid+.
MG has confirmed that its semi-solid-state battery, SolidCore, will feature in future PHEV models.
SolidCore improves consistency of vehicle performance and efficiency.
The first models to receive the technology will be three new SUVs, a B-segment, a C-segment and a D-segment model.
