Michelin has launched two high-efficiency tyres, which can deliver up to 44 miles of additional range on electric vehicles (EVs).
The Primacy 5 energy was rated A for efficiency, wet grip and noise, while the motorsport-derived Pilot Sport 5 energy was rated A for rolling resistance and has been proven at speeds of up to 186mph.
Both the Michelin Primacy 5 energy and Pilot Sport 5 energy are summer tyres, designed to improve EV range and internal combustion (ICE) fuel efficiency, while delivering high levels of performance.
Michelin said the Primacy 5 energy can reduce fuel consumption by up to 6%, while delivering braking distances 8% shorter than its predecessor.
In tests, it lasted up to 40% longer than competitiors.
It is available in 33 sizes, ranging from 16 inches to 19 inches.
The Pilot Sport 5 energy is available in 19 sizes from 19 inches to 21 inches.
It was designed to deliver precise handling and high levels of grip in the wet and dry.
Michelin said the MaxTouch Technology on the Pilot Sport 5 energy helps tackle the faster tyre wear often seem on performance cars, ensuring even wear.
The tyre was tested during the Mercedes-AMG GT CONCEPT XX’s world record run, where it maintained an average of over 186mph for almost eight days.
Jean-Claude Pats, automobile and two-wheel business line director and member of the Executive Committee at Michelin, said: “These innovations reflect a profound transformation in mobility.
“Today’s tyres must combine performance, longevity and energy efficiency while supporting the transition to electrified vehicles.
“With Michelin Primacy 5 energy and Michelin Pilot Sport 5 energy, drivers and manufacturers no longer need to compromise between performance, safety, durability and efficiency.
“These new ranges demonstrate Michelin’s continued investment in innovation and our ambition to deliver technologies that support the mobility needs of today and tomorrow.”
