Milence, the joint venture between Daimler Truck, TRATON GROUP, and Volvo Group, has officially opened its first UK public charging hub in Immingham, marking a significant milestone in decarbonising heavy-duty transport.

Located on the A180 with direct access to the M180, M18, and M1 motorways, the Immingham hub is strategically positioned to support transport and logistics operations connecting the UK with Europe. The nearby Associated British Ports (AHP) facilitates over 30 roll-on/roll-off and lift-on/lift-off sailings per week, providing a vital trade link to Northern Europe, Scandinavia, and the Baltic regions.

The first phase of the hub includes four high-performance CCS chargers, supplying power to eight charging bays with outputs of up to 400kW. Designed to support both trucks and drivers, the site features secure parking, access control, camera surveillance, restrooms, and vending machines.

Milence plans to expand its network further, targeting at least 1,700 high-performance charging points across Europe and the UK by 2027. Future developments at the Immingham site will include the installation of MSC chargers in the second phase of the project.

Anja van Niersen, CEO of Milence, said: “The opening of our first UK charge hub in Immingham marks a significant step in the UK’s transition to electric road transport. This strategically located site underscores our commitment to providing reliable and accessible charging infrastructure for the growing number of electric truck operators. This is just the first step in our UK expansion, and we are dedicated to working with all stakeholders to accelerate the shift towards a sustainable future for the transport industry.”

Future of Roads Minister Lilian Greenwood added: “Decarbonising road freight is key to reducing transport emissions, and it’s fantastic to see Milence launch the first charging hub in the UK for electric lorries. To support this transition, the Government is investing up to £200m to help rollout hundreds of zero emission lorries and install new infrastructure, supporting high paid jobs and making the UK a green energy superpower as part of our Plan for Change.”

The Immingham site is located within AHP’s 311-hectare deep-water port, designed to support offshore wind and renewable energy projects, reinforcing Milence’s role in driving the electric transport revolution.
