Mirai’s a gas

  • First Toyota Mirai hydrogen fuel cell cars arrive in UK;
  • Limited numbers of £60,000 Mirai all pre-sold;
  • Zero emissions cars refuel within four minutes and have ‘normal’ car range.

THE first fruits of Toyota upping production of its new zero emission hydrogen fuel cell saloon have arrived in UK ports as the Mirai makes its foray into the growing demand for clean, green company cars.

The futuristically styled cars landed last weekend and are part of the first consignment to reach Europe, ahead of Mirai’s official launch in September.

We reported back in January that the factory was scaling up its production from 700 units this year to approximately 2,000 in 2016 and around 3,000 in 2017.

Don't leave yourself out of pocket - a guide to what you can claim.

As part of Toyota’s global introduction of the world’s first mass-produced fuel cell saloon, the four-door Toyota Mirai hydrogen fuel cell is being offered in selected the UK, Germany and Denmark, where a hydrogen fuel supply and retail infrastructure is being developed.

And despite its rumoured price tag of about £60k, the limited number available in the UK this year have already been snapped up, principally by business customers keen to be among the first to explore the potential of the cars which will attract minimal tax thanks to its water vapour only exhaust-pipe emissions.
