Audi has announced prices for its new A5 and S5 saloon model lines, the launch of which will see the demise of the fleet favourite A4 after some 34 years on sale.
The new Saloon and Avant (estate) replace both the outgoing A4/S4 and A5/S5 model lines as Audi settles on a new naming convention with its combustion-engined models taking odd numbers and electrified versions even numbers – the A4 is expected to reappear in 2025 as an electric vehicle.
Prices for the new A5 Saloon start at £41,950 on-the-road and the more potent S5 Saloon from £68,700, with the Avant equivalents priced from £43,850 and £70,600.

The A5 variants are the first Audis built on a new platform dubbed Premium Platform Combustion (PPC) and are larger than their predecessors, freeing up additional interior space.
The A5 models also see the introduction of a new generation of TFSI petrol and TDI diesel engines, which Audi says are ultra-efficient. They comprise 2-litre 150 and 204hp petrol units and a 2-litre 204hp diesel, plus the 367hp of the 3-litre V6 petrol unit in the S5. All are front-wheel drive with the 3-litre TDI also available with quattro all-wheel-drive.
Both petrol engines include 48-volt mild hybrid assistance, Audi’s new MHEV Plus system which has two generators, virtually doubling the amount of energy recovered through regenerative braking and adding to the car’s potency.
A plug-in hybrid variant of the A5 with an electric-only range of 60 miles-plus is expected to be added to the line-up in 2025.
The new A5 will be available in Sport, S line and Edition 1 specification options, plus the bespoke S5 model. All of the new variants boast a redesigned interior prioritising connectivity, visual clarity and ease of use, centring on the Digital Stage – this curved, free-standing panoramic display integrates Audi’s 11.9-inch virtual cockpit and a 14.5-inch central touchscreen. A head-up display is also on offer.
