HEARD of the Tesla Model S yet?

You might have done – it’s the super saloon that can sprint from 0-62mph in 4.2 secs and has fuel economy of…Ummm, well it doesn’t.

It’s roughly the same contract hire price as a Range Rover Sport, but the savings after that are obvious

That’s because the Tesla Model S is electric.

And unlike other electric cars (EVs) on the market, it has a range that goes beyond the usual 80-100 miles normally associated with EVs.

The Tesla Model S’s range is an impressive 200-300 miles depending on model chosen.

And while the Tesla is aimed at the luxury end of the market – costing from around £50,000 after government grant – small fleet leasing specialist, Fleetdrive, is making the Tesla Model S available on a contract hire business car lease from £750 a month, including maintenance.

Fleetdrive is already a leader in green fleet leasing – it was voted best in its class at our Small Fleet Leasing Awards  – and managing director Mike Potter reckons that the company has the expertise and experience to offer support to SMEs wanting a Range Rover Sport alternative on their small fleet.

“It’s about the cost and making it work for people,” Mike explained about the Fleetdrive business car lease on the Tesla Model S.

“There’s zero BIK company car tax to 2015, and even then it’s a reduced rate that works out at £80 a month for a 40% tax payer,” continued Mike.

“Then there’s 50% allowance on the VAT of a business car lease while 100% of the monthly lease is allowable against corporation tax.

“And of course there’s the greatly reduced cost of the fuel.

“It all adds up to making the Tesla cost a lot less money to run than a traditional luxury car.”
