THE all-new MINI might have broken cover back in November (click here for more) but the Geneva show has seen the unveiling of a couple of important versions of the new car.
The MINI One has always been the low-cost entry point to ownership of this oh-so fashionable car and the new version aims to continue the theme.
It will be offered with either a turbocharged 1.2-litre three-cylinder petrol engine or a detuned variant of the 1.5-litre three-cylinder turbo diesel unit already in the MINI Cooper D.
The 100PS petrol version will be the quicker of the two, with a 9.9-second 0-62mph time. The de-tuned diesel with 19PS less than the Cooper D will take 11.0 seconds.
However business buyers are likely to favour the diesel with CO2 emissions down at measly 89g/km whereas the petrol version stays at 108g/km. Fuel economy is significantly better in the diesel too – 83mpg compared with 61.4mpg from the petrol engine.
The MINI One is expected in showrooms in the Autumn. MINI is not yet revealing how much it will cost, but the various improvements on the new model are expected to see a slight hike to the £13,500 entry price of the current car.
