New to the UK Chinese brand GWM has responded to forthcoming ‘affordable’ EVs on the way from rival European makers by slashing £7,000 from the price of its Ora 3 model.

While GWM is pitching a new range-topping variant in the Ora 3 range dubbed the GT, most attention will be on the equally new Pure model and its starting price of £24,995. The price is seen by industry observers as a direct reaction to the launch of new rivals such as the Renault 5 and Citroën e-C3.

The Ora 3 Pure is powered by a 48kWh battery offering a WLTP range of up to 192 miles, while standard equipment includes a 10.25-inch infotainment screen with navigation and wireless smartphone capability, wireless phone charging, a 360-degree camera system, rear parking camera and sensors, keyless entry and start and a facial recognition system.

The Pro version costs from £28,995, which is £6,000 cheaper than the Pro+ model it replaces, and uses a larger 63kWh battery, extending the range to 261 miles – additions include leatherette seating heated in the front, parking and reversing aids and front parking sensors.

The new GT range-topper starts at £32,995 and gets its own sports-pitched styling details including 18-inch GT Diamond turned alloy wheels with red detailing and red brake callipers. Wheel arch extensions, a front bumper trim and front and rear bumper styling are included along with a. rear roof-mounted spoiler.

The inside also gets s performance-themed makeover with red seat belts, GT embossed insignia in the front headrests, numerous red styling elements and ventilated and massaging front seats. Additional equipment includes a panoramic sunroof, launch control and a heat pump which helps improve battery management.

The new cars are on sale now from GWM’s UK dealer network, which now exceeds 35 outlets.
