New Hyundai i30 hatchback: Blue Drive low emission technologies mean reduced benefit in kind company car tax liability

BIGGER, bolder and with fuel-saving Blue Drive technology, the new generation Hyundai i30 five-door hatchback is destined to drive up sales this year particularly to small businesses and SME fleets.

Restyled inside and out, wider and longer with a bigger footprint on the road, the latest i30 series is designed, engineered and made in Europe. There are 16 models to choose from.

They are spread over four trim levels with a UK line-up of four engines with five power outputs from 90 to 128 PS, six-speed transmission for every model and an auto option on some, plus CO2emissions starting below 100 g/km.

Under its Blue Drive sub-brand, Hyundai is continuing to develop its clean diesel technologies.  The new 1.6-litre diesel unit, featuring Intelligent Stop & Go, delivers a good power to efficiency ratio, providing an output of 128ps and emissions of just 100 g/km, making this model one of the most efficient vehicles in the Ford Focus hatchback sector. The company car tax band for 2012/13 will be just 14%.

Hyundai is not only equipping the i30 with generous features but careful attention to costs means it is the cheapest in class to insure, offers the best benefit in kind for business users and the reassurance of a flexible and transferable five year assurance package including breakdown and service checks.

Sales of the i30 were just over 13,200 last year and in the important fleet company car sector it has seen a 58pc jump last year over 2010 and Hyundai believe it will add another 25pc this year.

“The original i30 has grown its UK market share every year since launch in 2008.  Now, the New Generation i30 will appeal to young, progressive buyers who want a car that not only performs well but also looks great.  It will ensure greater sales success, growing brand awareness and enhancing British consumers’ perceptions of Hyundai,” said Tony Whitehorn, president and CEO, of Hyundai.

Commenting on the 110ps model in Active trim with the lowest CO2 in the range of just 97g/km, Tony added:

“All our Blue Drive i30 models will make an outstanding proposition to SME small fleet business car managers and to business drivers with an eye on their company car tax allowance, depending on how they want to balance performance with tax efficiency.  But our i30 110PS mode,l in particular, with CO2 emissions from 97 g/km, makes it the lowest priced sub-100 g/km 5-door model in the C-segment with the lowest fuel consumption and the lowest BIK at £876 per year for 40% tax payers,” he added.

The Hyundai i30 range is on sale now; prices rise from £14,495 to £20,795.
